Happy Birthday to ME!
Today, my whole extended family (my parents, sisters, their hubby/fiancé and kids and us) are at Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, TX! Not for my birthday, but for our christmas gift from my parents! I love that! Love giving experiences and family time instead of getting stuff. Love getting to snuggle my 5 month old nephew while my kids go crazy down the water slides. Love getting to know my future step-nephew a little better, as well as my future brother-in-law.
But today I write to share another set of children half-way across the world. I have shared before my love for my friend Tonya and her Kirabo Seeds mission. I love these children. We write to them, and then receive back the most precious letters and prayers! I traveled to see them and pour God’s love, through the verses in Ephesians, into them back in the summer 2012 (as I’m writing this on July 15th, 2014, it marks 2 years to the day that I returned home from that trip!).
I have seen some online birthday parties recently, where people have their friends and family donate to one of their favorite charities as a gift. I absolutely love this idea! I believe God gives each of us passions and voices to use for His glory. He has given Eric and I this blog, our online and computer talents, and a passion for the orphan. He has given Tonya a heart for the Ugandan orphan, an artistic side that inspires others, and a huge giving heart.
What has He given you? Time? Finances? A large online network?
Here is what He is doing through Kirabo Seeds:
Kirabo Seeds is a christian 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization called to care for the fatherless in Uganda by equipping the children there to fulfill their God given potential and create a family environment as they grow to become the future of Uganda. Our strategies to accomplish this mission are to follow God’s grace, provision and guidance first and foremost. We aim to foster relationships in Uganda so we can help Ugandans strengthen their bible knowledge, as well as create self sustaining opportunities for Ugandan churches to help their own children. We work to connect people in America who have the desire and heart to help the needy children with the fatherless by creating a sponsor relationship. We also educate and speak publically in schools and churches for the cause of orphan care.
I asked Tonya the other day what they need most in Uganda for their ministry. I know they have sponsorships for their children in their home for school, medical and dental care, food, and other daily needs, animals they are raising to sell, eat and breed, and staff needs as well. Her response was simple: a female goat (or two)!! They recently were given a male goat and have two men now working their land, so they are hoping to grow their herd.
She posted recently about all that the staff and children there can gain from goats. Every endeavor they reach out into is to make them more self-sufficient. I love the attitude of work there.
So will you help me? Any donation via Paypal, or check made out to Kirabo Seeds and mailed to her address (email me for that!) is totally tax deductible. You can put a memo of Misty Newsome’s Birthday just for fun to see how much we can donate in the next week, but it will all be YOUR gift.
They also have a store-envy store where you can purchase BEAUTIFUL hand made items that Tonya picks out specifically while there. She works with some of the same women over and over again on her 3-4 travels per year to Uganda. She helps fund their children’s education and pay their rent, all while picking out beautiful items to sell stateside to help fund Kirabo Seed’s mission.
Each female goat costs just $150 there. Could we buy two? $300 for my 34th birthday? Could you spare $5? $10? $50? Or maybe God has been working on your heart long before I brought this up and you are looking to sponsor a child that will impact your life, as much as it will theirs. They have those available for $25/month and I can assure you, you will be blessed.
I did want to sweeten the deal, so I will be giving away one of these beautiful hand carved Africa key chains, a small striped giraffe stuffed animal and a beautiful green/blue large hand made chunky paper bead bracelet.
The more entries you complete on the rafflecopter, the more chances you have! I will pull the winner on Sunday, July 27th and post July 28th!
