One of my next posts is going to a review of Tsh Oxenreider’s Notes from a Blue Bike: The Art of Living Intentionally in a Chaotic World.
I loved this book!! I think I might have highlighted more than I didn’t, so I need to go back through to pull out what spoke to me most. But I wanted to encourage our readers with some books that I have heard about and can’t wait to read!
A new release is Annie Down’s Let’s All Be Brave: Living Life with Everything You Have. I follow quite a few Christian authors and bloggers that I love, and they have all recommended this book. From what I’ve read on the intro and the reviews, it goes along so well with the book I can’t stop talking about, Restless.
After looking into Annie Down’s books on Amazon, as a single, young, Christian author, I can get excited about her past offerings as well! Especially because, when she came out with her new book, her previous books with 4+ star reviews are $.99! Here are a couple:
They both sound amazing!! But I can’t wait to read Speak Love: Making Your Words Matter. I have seen this action played out so many times, as well as the opposite! Sometimes as moms, we need that encouragement to speak LOVE, always!
Well, my bookshelf is piling up, how about yours? Eric always asks, “How do you make time to read??” And there are definite seasons when I don’t make the time for it, or just plain fall asleep! But my #1 recommendation came, you can guess it, from a book!
I read Crystal Paint’s Say Goodbye to Survival Mode book earlier this year and loved it as well. One of her suggestions if you want to grow whatever it is your passionate about: your business, homeschooling, your faith, etc. is that you have to read! She is a busy homeschooling mom of 3 running a full-time work-from-home business, and she read 10-12 books a month!
Her suggestion was to start small. Commit to one chapter a day. Wake up a little earlier, and after your quiet time with the Lord, squeeze in a chapter. Or at least start one. Keep books around your house (she is typically reading numerous books at a time, like me!), and if you are waiting on something to cook and the kids are playing well together, read some!
A lot of times for us, we have a D.E.A.R. time in the afternoons, Drop Everything And Read! We each grab a chair on the couch or recliners in our living room, and read! Anna looks at books, and the big kids get to see that mommy enjoys to read as well. Even in just 20 minutes you can make some big strides in increasing your reading time and completing books.
So, what are your favorite type of books to read? I love books that build my faith and point me to the Lord. Last January, I realized I hadn’t read a fiction series in a while. I consider them guilty pleasures and typically only do it when on vacation or Eric is home for quite a few days. Simply because if I get into it, I can’t stop!! I read Francine Rivers Mark of the Lion series.
I started the series right before we went on a weekend cruise with friends. And I loved them!!! I came down with the flu on the first night I was on the boat (thanks kids!), so I had a lot of rest and relaxation time reading these books. If you haven’t read Francine Rivers, give these a try! They were fantastic.
Would love to hear feedback if you have read any of the above titles. We are compiling a page at the top of our list of book recommendations (from me) and music recommendations (from Eric) that we love or enjoyed. You’ll be sure to see these on that list!
If you don’t have a kindle, you can always download a Kindle reader on many tablets, devices, or even on your computer! Just click below and walk through the set-up steps!
Have a blessed Sunday friends!
